Your Child’s First Visit to the Dentist

في Wichita Family Dental, we make a special effort to keep our tiniest patients at ease in our office.

when should I bring my child to the dentist?

Your child should visit the dentist before their first birthday and you should help them to practice proper oral hygiene habits as soon as their teeth erupt. Teach your child to brush their teeth using a brush with very soft bristles. They only need a pea-sized amount of toothpaste at first.
If your child’s gums are sore as their teeth come in, you can rub a cool, wet cloth across them for relief. Teething rings are also available.
We recommend you brush their new teeth after every meal as sugary foods and juice can cause decay.

What Should I Tell My Child About the First Dental Visit?

To prepare your child for their first trip to our office, you can tell them what to expect. في زيارتهم الأولى, the dentist will gently examine their mouth, أسنان, and gums. They will evaluate habits like thumb sucking and teach you how to properly clean and care for their teeth.

You can also add a couple of books about the dentist to their bedtime reading to get them ready. هنا بعض المفضلات الينا:

What about Preventative Care?

You should also limit their sugar intake and snacking, especially before bed. Teach your children the importance of brushing, flossing, and rinsing at least twice a day.

Remember that baby teeth are important. They allow your child to chew, bite, and speak correctly. It is important that you teach your child to care for these teeth so they can establish healthy habits before their permanent teeth come in.

Your child may need your assistance when they first begin brushing. Help them to brush along the gumline, floss carefully in between each tooth, and double-check their teeth before rinsing.
