ADVANCED dental technology
Digital X-rays take less time than traditional X-rays. They provide crystal clear photos and limit the patient’s exposure to radiation.
The intraoral camera gives your Wichita Family Dental team a complete and detailed view of the inside of your mouth. It can help us uncover cracked teeth, plaque buildup, cavities, and decay. Our intraoral camera is very small – roughly the size of the mirror used during regular hygiene appointments – but it can help us diagnose oral problems before they become severe. Early detection and prevention means less invasive treatment and lower costs.
DIGITAL CT IMAGING
Digital CT imaging systems are faster, more comfortable, and more effective than traditional CT scanners. One 20-second scan provides the 3D data necessary for dental implants, wisdom teeth extractions, impactions, treatment of TMJ, airway assessments and sleep apnea, full facial and jaw 3D images. Patients who receive a digital CT scan sit in an open environment rather than an enclosed space which ensures their comfort.
Digital impressions provide instant, accurate 3D images without goop, gagging, or discomfort. During the scanning process, a radiation-free handheld wand scans your teeth in as little as two to three minutes. The process can be stopped and started as many times as is necessary. The laser wand creates a perfect 3D impression of your teeth and the soft tissue inside your mouth. These digital impressions can be used by your Wichita Family Dental team to create crowns, veneers, inlays/onlays, bridges, implants, and orthodontic treatments, including Invisalign®.
CEREC same-day crowns can restore damaged teeth during a single visit to the doctor’s office. The restoration is made of a high-grade ceramic material compatible with the tissue inside your mouth. During your appointment, your doctor will explain the procedure and answer your questions. Your doctor will take a 3D image of your tooth and, using CEREC’s proprietary software, your restoration will be customized according to your tooth’s form and function. Then, CEREC uses diamond burs to produce your restoration from a piece of ceramic. Your doctor will bond this ceramic restoration to your tooth using state-of-the-art dentistry. The ceramic materials are tooth-colored and match the composition of your natural teeth. They are stronger than traditional crowns so they remain in good condition for many years. You do not need a temporary crown. CEREC saves you time and discomfort.
Laser therapy dental treatment is faster, more comfortable, and more precise. Many laser treatments can be done without the need for anesthesia and the recovery time is shorter than with other treatment methods. Hard tissue laser dentistry includes cavity detection, fillings, and improvements for tooth sensitivity. Soft tissue laser dentistry includes gum reshaping, gum surgery, and improvements for muscle attachment. Laser dentistry can also remove benign oral tumors, regenerate nerves, whiten teeth, and treat TMD.
VELSCOPE® Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer kills one person every hour in the United States. Early detection is the key to early diagnosis and treatment. A patient’s five-year survival rate is 80-90% higher when oral cancer is diagnosed and treated early.
The VELscope screening system allows your doctor to closely examine the tissues inside your mouth. Normal tissues appear bright green while abnormal tissue shows up much darker when exposed to the white light source of the VELscope. If an abnormal screening occurs, your doctor may schedule a second scan or may perform a gentle brush biopsy to test for cancer.
Risk Factors for Oral Cancer:
- Frequent use of tobacco products
- Excessive consumption of alcohol
- Genetics (a family history of cancer)
- Excessive exposure to the sun at a young age
